Tuck
Give the menu bar more breathing room while keeping hidden apps within reach.
Experimental preview for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27 or later; Accessibility permission is required. Its private macOS framework backend may need updates as macOS changes. The download is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized.
TuckA quieter menu bar.THE CONTEXT
What the work connects.
Background apps can fill the menu bar with icons that do not need to stay visible all day. Hiding them should still leave a clear way to reach them when they are useful.
- Built for
- Mac users who want a calmer menu bar
- My contribution
- I built a native Mac utility in Swift and SwiftUI for choosing which apps remain visible and which are tucked away. It includes saved per-app rules, a native reveal arrow, and a keyboard shortcut.
HOW IT WORKS
From one step to the next.
- 01
Choose
Find a menu bar app
- 02
Set a rule
Keep it visible or hide it
- 03
Reveal
Use the arrow or keyboard shortcut
- 04
Settle
Hide items again when ready
Each app receives a Keep or Hide rule stored locally on the Mac. The arrow or Control–Option–Command–B shortcut reveals hidden items, while optional automatic rehide and launch at login let the behavior fit an everyday setup.
THE RESULT
A working path through the task.
Tuck is an experimental preview for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27 or later. The website provides its installer, changelog, and compatibility notes, including the Accessibility permission and private macOS framework backend that the utility depends on.
